Bachelor of Arts in Middle School Education from the University of Georgia

I taught fifth grade for one year at Fairview Elementary.  I then moved to Forsyth County and taught at Otwell Middle School for four years.  While teaching at Otwell Middle School, Otwell was awarded the National School of Excellence.  I moved back to Habersham County where I taught fourth grade at Hazel Grove Elementary for fourteen years and then I was an Early Intervention Program teacher at Hazel Grove for four years.  I was the 2001-2002 Teacher of the Year at Hazel Grove Elementary.

I am married to Mark Black.  Mark is a Civil Engineer and he is the General Manager of Metro Green Recycling in Atlanta.  I have two children, Kelsey and Hayden.  Kelsey is 26 years old and he graduated from Georgia Tech with highest honors.  Kelsey is a Civil Engineer.  He is married to Emilee and she is a 3rd grade teacher in Gainesville.  Hayden is 23 years old and he is in his second year of Pharmacy School at the University of Georgia.  He is married to Kaity who is a Pricing Analyst at the Office Depot Corporate Office.  I love spending time with my family, being outdoors, working in my yard, and exercising.  Currently I run an average of 25 to 30 miles a week.  I enjoy competing in 5k and 10k races on the weekends.  I have run two half marathons and I am training for another half on Thanksgiving Day.  I was "Runner of the Year" last year for AAA Race services and placed third in my age group in the "Run and See Georgia" race series.  I was also featured on the runner profiles in the "Black Bag Race Series" last year.  I ran the Peachtree Road Race for the first time this summer and I placed in the top 8% of all runners.  I believe in having goals and doing my best in everything I do. I try hard to teach my students to do the same.
